Middle-Grade Novel (8-12years)

Detective Inspector Gavin Campbell is the unluckiest police officer in Scotland. Possibly in the world. But Gavin’s world has fortumancy, magic which controls luck, and everyone can use it. So why does Gavin refuse to make himself luckier? More importantly, can he still catch the criminals and keep the public safe?

Short Story Collection

When all is in flux what remains unchanged? This collection of sci-fi and fantasy stories attempts to explore that question in a variety of settings ranging from the depths of interstellar space through to mediaeval Scotland. The characters in each story face some significant change in their lives. From dealing with vampiric amnesia to a robot with a soul, when everything is suddenly different, our protagonists must find the fixed core that is their true selves.

The Sword of Peace

Middle-Grade Novel (8-12years)

Gilmat is the greatest swordsman in the world. Through his ruthless, brutal skills he wins a magic sword of legendary power: the Gortean-Mòra. It is said that the sword is so potent it can end fighting. Unfortunately for Gilmat, this is not as good as it seems. Any wound caused by the sword is also inflicted on its wielder. Worse, if Gilmat tries to use another weapon he becomes clumsy and unable to fight.

Can Gilmat live without fighting, or is his life defined by combat? With such a price what could possibly drive him to take up the sword once more? To keep what’s his? To fight off bullies? To protect those he cares about? To avenge them?

Picture Book

Lexi loves the school library, but it’s a mess after years of disuse. With the help of its mysterious inhabitant, Lexi returns it to its former glory as a place of learning and, most importantly, or sharing stories.

Notes: This book was written in conjunction with Carnegie Primary School in Dunfermline. The illustrations are the result of a school-wide art competition.
