About Me

You can follow me on Twitter (@Brandon_HC_Lim) to find out the random nonsense that goes on in my head.

Like LEGO? I usually share the models that work out on flickr.

Right now…

Hello, I’m Brandon. I live in Dunfermline, Scotland with my wife and two children. My favourite thing in the world is telling stories, which I do whenever the chance arises. On a good day I remember to write them down.

When I’m not doing that, I can usually be found at my local primary school in my alter-ego, the Library Troll. Basically, I lurk in the library moving stuff around, looking after the books, and devouring wayward pupils gently encouraging reading and careful book-handling.

If you want to know more about what I’m writing just now head over to the Projects page.

You did stuff before though, right?

Of course! I was many things before I was an author. In times previous I have been a software engineer, computer game developer, electronic engineer, inventor, yarn spinner (as in wool) and fencing coach (as in sword-fighting).

In my defence, all of those seemed like a good fit at the time. Each one eventually led be back to the same place: stories. Trust me when I say, crafting characters and weaving plot threads is no way to design an electronic circuit.

That’s all work though. You have fun too, don’t you?

First up, I’ll stop you right there. If you make good choices, and you’re more than a bit lucky too, then work can be tremendous fun.

Okay, fair enough, you’re right. I do some things just for fun.

  • Every chance I get I head out into the wonders of nature. The aim is to experience as much of it as I can. It doesn’t hurt that many of the places I’ve visited have also been wonderful story prompts. Oops, sorry. This wasn’t meant to be about work.
  • I’m also an avid LEGO fan or AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) as we seem to be calling ourselves. I especially enjoy designing and creating my own models, each with their own backstory of course. Some of the official sets are fun too, though.
  • I also play the violin. Really badly, but that doesn’t stop me. If you live near enough to hear – sorry.
